Utilities Committee Chair Helena Moreno to Introduce Renewable Portfolio Standard, Ensuring Clean Energy Future

NEW ORLEANS - Tomorrow, Utility, Cable, Telecommunications and Technology Committee (UCTT) Chair Helena Moreno will introduce a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) resolution at the UCTT Committee hearing, setting forth the process to create the Gulf South's first portfolio standard that would require all new power generation to come from carbon-free sources. New Orleans would be the first territory in the Gulf South to employ an RPS to vastly accelerate the transition to clean energy moving forward.

NEW ORLEANS - Utilities Committee Chair Helena Moreno, Council Sewerage and Water Board (S&WB) Appointee Jay H. Banks, and Public Works Committee Chair Joe Giarrusso have issued the following statement regarding Entergy and the New Orleans Power Station (NOPS):

"Since taking office last May, this Council has relentlessly fought on behalf of Entergy New Orleans and Sewerage Water Board (S&WB) customers. We continue to review all aspects of service and business practices by S&WB and Entergy to determine how they can better serve New Orleanians.

In 2018, the Entergy New Orleans peaking power plant was approved by the previous Council before the paid actor scandal was uncovered. NEW ORLEANS  - Today, Councilmember Helena Moreno announced she would be filing a resolution calling upon the NFL to ignite a thorough review of officiating rules, the use of replay technology, and an evaluation of how the NFL assesses conflicts of interest within the Officiating Department. The Saints season was effectively ended by an inexplicably "missed" pass interference call in Sunday's NFC Championship game. All Councilmembers have joined on as co-sponsors.
