NEW ORLEANS - Councilmember-At-Large Helena Moreno and District 'B' Councilmember Lesli Harris are issuing a reminder that the Council is currently soliciting proposals from structural engineers or engineering firms to provide professional services to the Council regarding advice and assistance related to potential legislative solutions to reduce the risk of collapse of privately-owned structures in the city.

NEW ORLEANS - On Monday, July 14, 2025, the Quality of Life Committee received a presentation from several City Hall department members regarding the partial collapse of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities building that occurred on December 14, 2024. The Committee also reviewed a loan agreement and related documents between the City and Canal Crossing Senior Apartments, along with an amendment to the contract between the City and Life-Assist Inc.

1031 Canal Street Receives Historic Landmark Designation for Civil Rights Movement and Hard Rock Collapse Site

NEW ORLEANS – Council Vice President Helena Moreno and Councilmember Freddie King III are proud to announce that the Central Business District Historic District Landmarks Commission (“CBDHDLC”) has found that 1031 Canal Street meets the criteria for a historic landmark designation. This effort began with a motion jointly filed by their Council offices requesting the CBDHDLC study whether landmark designation is appropriate for this site given its historically significant past.
